Hello from the Moss Organics team,

It’s been a busy and exciting few months here at Tweedbank — we’ve built new relationships with suppliers, welcomed more customers than ever, given our website a bit of a facelift, and are expanding our deliveries further across the Borders. Christmas is coming and we’ll be offering custom boxes for big dinners! We’ll also need some help from you if winter deliveries are going to be challenging where you live…
Officially Certified Organic!

We’re delighted to confirm that Moss Organics passed audit and inspection with SOPA (the Scottish Organic Producers Association) in September, making us the only certified-organic greengrocer in the Scottish Borders.

This means everything in your box is independently verified to meet strict organic standards — not just “natural” or “chemical-free,” as some suppliers may try to reassure you, but legally organic.

We are extremely proud to have achieved this status and can say with confidence that what arrives in your box is completely trustworthy, traceable, and organic.

New: Organic Eggs

Customers ask us about eggs more than anything else and we are now very pleased to offer organic-certified eggs from Bonnington Farm near Peebles — just £3 per box of six - fresh, local, and certified-organic.

Christmas Boxes and Festive Delivery Changes

We anticipate significant demand over the festive period (and fully intend on meeting it!). In the next week or two, we’ll add a Christmas Box option to our website. Here you’ll be able to order one-off bumper deliveries of winter roots and greens for big meals with family and friends.

Box sizes will start from a four-person box of organic roasting potatoes, organic sprouts, organic parsnips, organic carrots, and so on.

In addition to our usual add-ons like fruit boxes and seasoning bags, we’ll be selling organic chestnuts too.

Since farmers also need to take time off over Christmas, delivery and collection days will be a little skewed, which will mean adjusted veg box delivery days. We’ll let you know well in advance of any one-off changes.

Likewise, we’ll be taking a week off over Christmas, the dates of which will be determined by supplier holidays. Again, you’ll know of any breaks or changes in delivery schedules several weeks beforehand.

New delivery routes

In addition to eggs, we’ve been asked about expanding our delivery boundaries. As a small team, the challenge has been ensuring we can cover a large area while maintaining a friendly, local feel to our delivery runs. We extended our range a couple of weeks ago and now deliver to;

Heriot (Wednesdays)
Kelso (Fridays)
Hawick (Wednesdays)
Jedburgh (Fridays)
Earlston (Fridays)

We’re also preparing to expand into Berwickshire on Saturdays. From November 8th, we’ll be delivering from Gordon to Berwick-upon-Tweed, Coldingham to Coldstream.

If you know anyone in these areas who might love a Moss Organics box, please let them know. Local recommendations make an enormous difference in the Borders - much more so than in big cities.

S.O.L. Food

Our food buying philosophy is S.O.L. Food - Seasonal, Organic, Local - while we can’t stick to it all of the time (hello bananas!), having relationships with local growers make it so much easier to buy and eat well. A longer-term goal for the business is to persuade more local farms to make the conversion to organic certification and we’ve begun exploring opportunities to grow our own organic salad veg.

We source our winter veg directly from Graham Elder and his son Angus at Chapel Farm in North Berwick, greens, celery and herbs from our veg box pals at East Coast Organics in Pencaitland, and eggs from Bonnington Farm in Peebles.

Winter Roads and Deliveries

As winter approaches, we’re planning ahead for road conditions. If your road is regularly gritted (or not), or if there are access challenges we should know about in bad weather, please let us know — it really helps us plan safe and reliable deliveries.

We’d like to hear what your postie does in bad weather, for example — where they leave parcels if the road is icy or snowed in, and what tends to work best in your area. Your insight will help us plan our routes sensibly through the winter months. We want to reach you, so please email us ([email protected]) if you think we might struggle to get to you in the snow.

We’d Love Your Feedback - Leave Us a Google Review

We’ve had useful feedback on our boxes, especially portion sizes, but we’d love to know more of what you think - more spuds, fewer greens, more Scottish/British? We are led by your preferences and absolutely willing to try suggestions.

Our seasoning bags have had less uptake than other products for example — what doesn’t tempt you? Would you like something different?

You can reply to this email and share your thoughts. Likewise, a short Google review would really help us reach new customers.

Thank you again for supporting a small, certified-organic business here in the Borders. We are proud to be based here, to serve our community, and we hope we embody Borders values.
